Sturdy, air tight containerOct 24, 2010

THis container is exactly like the ones that come with the SodaStream penguin. Very attractive and sturdy. However, if you have a SodaStream Jet or Pure, I doubt this will be compatible. Penguin contains are 20oz and Jet containers are about 34oz.

Great bottle, but be carefulDec 04, 2010
By Robert D. Levy I'm not Conan the Barbarian, but the lid on these glass carafes are very sensitive. Once I figured out the right amount of pressure/tightness in closing the bottles they work perfectly. I appreciate the ease of cleaning and maintaining.

Pretty, elegant carafeOct 03, 2011
By BoogieMom We got a Penguin system about a year ago, and we have been using the two bottles it came with. Each holds the same amount as our large drinking glasses, so we never store them charged. As soon as we make it, we drink it, so it's always fresh. We thought it would be nice to have some extras on hand, so we had more water ready to charge in case we had people over. We keep them full of uncharged water in the fridge, ready to use.
When we got the system, the brochure it came with showed a few different styles of glass carafes, but looking around (including SodaStream's website), it appears these carafes are the only style available now. And that's fine, because this is the style it came with, so we now have a set of four that all matches. They are good quality and elegant, perfect for guests.
I also like drinking from glass as opposed to plastic. I think it just tastes better, but there are those who say it's bad for your health to ingest anything from plastic.

Caps are poorly madeMar 31, 2012
By C. Burdick Both the spare I bought from Amazon and the carafe that came with the SodaStream unit do not seal and it's because they're poorly made. The plastic gasket either gets stuck down in the bottle neck or it fails to seat squarely. Either way, you end up with flat water a few hours later. Best advice, make the seltzer, drink it and forget about storage. And, for what it's worth, before you buy any SodaStream maker, do a little ROI analysis. By the time you lay down $179 for the soda maker and buy a spare carafe you're sitting at about $200. Local grocers here sell six packs of seltzer for about $2, so you're not ahead of your investment until you've bought 100 six-packs and that's assuming the SodaStream CO/2 cartridge could charge 600 16-ounce bottle of seltzer. Probably not.

Penguin Carafe and it's CapMar 12, 2012

I've had the Sodastream Jet and 5 carafes about 5 months. The Jet is perfect. The Glass Carafes are perfect.
The plastic caps are, well, horrible inadequate.
It seems that neither my wife nor I can get the exact cap pressure to stop leakage ... this translates to the drink going flat anywhere from over-night to a day sometimes.
It may be that only a couple caps, of 5, are not-so-good. I'm not in the mood to do a Double-Blind test.
For the price of the nice glass carafe, I would have thought the caps would lock-down. Note it is possible to tighten so much that the rubber pulls out of the plastic cap. If so, you are in for a time re-seating the rubber, though it is possible to do.
I am back on Amazon seeking replacement caps. However, so far, I find none.
