Really Great CrockNov 07, 2011
By John Spirko My grandparents made fermented veg of all forms when I was a kid, they had several huge crocks and a big basement to keep stuff in. Recently I had a guy on my podcast talking about making sauerkraut and other fermented vegetables. I realized a few things...
1. I missed this stuff
2. My grandparents crocks were too big for a household with two people and no basement
3. I wanted something like they had
So I found this one and noticed it included stones with it. I have my first batch going now, cabbage, apples, carrots and caraway seeds. I sampled some at 4 days in, just beginning to get tangy but I can tell it is going to be awesome. I am now looking into fermented hot sauce and trying to recreate my Grandmothers Chow Chow. I was actually here to buy a two more of them but they are currently out of stock. I would like to have two to three going with different stuff at all times from now on.
At 5 liters it is about the perfect size for a household like ours. I highly recommend this item. There are some other nice ones here about the same size and I am sure they are fine, many also have the water lock which is really nice. I just like the form factor of this one a lot. You can have three or four on a shelf or what have you with no problems. They will also fit in a fridge. I did up two normal size heads of cabbage, about half a pound of carrots and 4 apples in my batch and it packed down to about 60% of the space. So I figure it is plenty large enough for daily use. If I had a root cellar I would probably buy a larger crock.

awful potApr 26, 2012
By Grace The stones arrived chipped and cracked molded upon use because they absorb the fermenting juices. The pot was leaking from the bottom rim! And the fermenting juices slowly leaking out of the bottom rim created a mold on the rib that I could not wash out. This product has some major production defects that should be reviewed.
