With any water ionizer, it is essential that this material allow water to pass during ionization. What can happen, however, is that, unless there is an automatic cleaning cycle, very hard water will leave deposits on this material and eventually lower its transfer efficiency. The new proprietary matting used in the Venus water cell is extremely resistant to mineral deposits. Lime, iron, and other minerals are "sloughed off" enabling better ionization for a long period of time. The inner structure of the Venus water cell also enables a much better acid from alkaline water separation. This enhanced segregation between alkaline and acid water results in more efficient ionization as well as better isolation of any remaining chlorine or fluoride. This combination of efficient draining, improved matting, and revised inner structure enables the Venus to operate very efficiently on only one clean cycle of 10 seconds per every 20 liters. This is the third (and hopefully the last for a long time) water ionizer/filter I've bought and I'm happy with it overall. It has all of the important features without the higher price tag of other models. Compared to other Jupiter models, the only feature not included is the continuous "reverse action" cleaning system. However the Venus does run an automatic cleaning cycle (10 seconds) every 20 liters which should be fine unless perhaps you have extremely hard water. I can get an optimal range of about 4.0 - 10.5 pH, and this range can be shifted by adjusting the maximum flow rate with the built-in knob (great feature). This is not an "entry-level" unit, but a full-fledged work horse and I would recommend it to anyone. The only cons I have with the unit also apply to every other unit on the market in the U.S. now (AFAIK).
The water quality and taste is great since the Venus uses the same filter cartridges as the highest-end models. It would be nice if the filter life indicator was numeric instead of bars, but actual life depends on the source water and so even a numeric indicator can't be exact. The filters are .1 or .01 micron and last 1000 gals./1 yr. (more like 6 mos really). Although not over-priced compared to others available in the U.S., I would like the option of a longer life or cheaper filter. Specifically, the Panasonic ionizer I had in Japan used very similar filters (0.05 micron) that lasted for 4000 gallons/2 yrs. and only cost a little more, so I'm not thrilled about the ~3x price difference. The only difference seems to be that Jupiter filters include a "biostone" for infrared radiation of the water, but I can't tell any difference.
Unfortunately, the diverter value included with the unit is not well designed at all. I've gone through three now and am resigned to living with it because I can't find anything different to replace it with. It's fully usable but annoying because the pin doesn't pull itself back in all the way so you have to remember to push it "off". It's disappointing to drop close to a grand on a piece of equipment to have it come with a poor quality valve, but those valves seem to be ubiquitous for all counter-top water filters (look at the pictures here on Amazon).
Overall this is a terrific model from a reputable company and it matches the water quality of even the most expensive models for less. The design is more than adequately attractive, and it's a snap to set up and use. It has plenty of power to give you all the benefits of ionization. Steamed vegetables with Level 4 alkaline come out brightly colored and drinks taste great. I collect the acid water discharge in a container to use for cleaning and find that I need less cleanser with it. If you're looking to get healthier or get in shape, drinking alkaline water provides an extra boost to a good diet and exercise routine and makes it a lot easier to drink more water and fluids throughout the day.

My reason for purchase was to help my husband with his stomach problem
reflux. We also like the taste of the water. We travel and run into many different types of water the Jupier makes it all taste great.
My husband's problem isn't cured but he hasn't had to sit up at night like he did before.
This unit is easy to use and doesn't take up too much room in our motor home Its also nice looking so I don't mind having it on my counter. Our friends we stop and see on our way south were amased at how good their coffee was. Iam very pleased Idid this pchase.

I got the best price from Marks Pool which is a quarter of some ionizers out there
