Description:

Excalibur 2500 Deluxe Series 5 Tray Food Dehydrator The 2500 Deluxe Series is a 5-Tray food dehydrator that is great for families that love eating healthy! Drying food is fun! The Excalibur Dehydrator allows you to dry anything evenly and efficiently. The unit can dry all fruits, vegetables, meats, and more! Make fruit leathers and home-made jerky - FRESH! The Excalibur has a trademarked horizontal-airflow drying system which dries foods perfectly evenly on all the trays. Dehydrating is a great way to add a new way of consuming foods without damaging valuable nutrients which may be lost during high heat cooking! Dried foods are a great treat to snack on because they hold almost all of their nutritional value and flavor. This unit differs from other dehydrators because of its unique horizontal drying system in the rear of the unit. This provides a sure way to provide an even dehydration process as the warm air removes moisture and is pushed out the front of the machine. There is also no need to rotate trays because of the horizontal drying. Includes instruction manual with over 50 recipes!

5Outstanding and Addicting!Dec 29, 2008
By Pescetarian
I researched dehydrators for almost 3 months before making a purchase, and asked a LOT of people what features they liked or disliked about their dehydrator. I discovered that the round ones, although seemingly popular (and cheaper) will not dry evenly because the fan is at the bottom, so if you have too many things on the bottom it will not let the proper amount of air above to dry the things on the upper levels - which is a MAJOR drawback! Also lots of the smaller kinds of dehydrators do not have self-timers, which I really wanted because when you're drying something for anywhere from 8 to 24 hours, you don't want to have to remember to check on it to turn it off! Another thing some people mentioned were that some smaller types can be quite noisy, which I wanted to try to avoid as much as possible. There were a few other drawbacks to the smaller and/or cheaper models, but I can't remember them now as it's been several months. One of the things that really caught my attention on the Excalibur was the fact that many people had them from the 70's and they are STILL running - reminds me of a Kitchenaid mixer...

SO - I finally decided that an Excalibur would work best, as they have built-in timers, a very varied temperature range, and the fan is located in the back of the dehydrator instead of at the bottom (which someone has already mentioned). I was also very happy to discover that the trays are dishwasher safe, and very easy to wipe down, otherwise, as well! Well, I finally broke down and clicked the 'purchase' button, and ever since then it's been no regrets!

I have used and used and used my dehydrator for 6 months now and I still have not run into one thing that I dislike about it! It's not very noisy at all - my family often mistakes it for a small fan or the air conditioner blowing. I LOVE the self timer and I don't think I could ever live without it! I can put something in when I go to bed and not have to wake up at 6AM to keep it from over-drying. I just set the timer and 'click': off it goes! I have used it for a whole week, 24 hours a day, 7 days in a row, once before and it ran fine and kept a consistent temperature. My model came with 2 Paraflexx sheets included, and I love those as well, although in some cases I believe wax paper or parchment paper would do just as well.

I have used this to dry rawfoods recipes (although I'm not a rawfoodist, I do enjoy the recipes!), for fruit leathers, made some veggie 'chips', made some strawberry-banana granola, to re-crisp stale chips, to preserve produce that is going bad from the fridge, to make yogurt, to dry sprouted beans and grains... I'm sure there's more... :-) Once you dehydrate something you will be hooked!

Trust me - if you purchase any Excalibur dehydrator you will not be disappointed in any way!

5Fantastic!!Sep 21, 2008
By James E. Axsom
The Excalibur far exceeds my expectations! I have been using the "round" dehydrators for years, and while they a great for the price, you get what you pay for. I generally like to make a lot dried foods at once, with round dehydrators I was constantly swapping trays in an attempt to get everything to dry at the same rate. With the Excalibur the process is simple, about half way though the drying process I rotate trays 180 degrees and it has always come out perfect. I could not be more satisfied.

5Great workhorse dehydrator.Oct 11, 2011

Love this dehydrator. I do wish I hadn't been so cheap and had shelled out a few dollars more for the Excalibur with the timer, but I've adjusted. So far I've dehydrated soaked oatmeal to make granola, sprouts for sprout flour, mushrooms, apples and carrots. Wonderful results. My only complaint is not about the dehydrator, hence the five stars. It's about the condition in which it arrived. Having never purchased a dehydrator on-line before, maybe this is the way they all arrive, but I unpacked the box and removed the dehydrator. Looking inside the dehydrator, I saw that the five trays were all askew and bent. Fortunately, the trays are somewhat flexible and they straightened out immediately after removing them. But this is what I had to do to remove the trays from the dehydrator: I had to brace my feet on either side of the dehydrator to remove the initial tray. The other trays followed more easily. I'm not sure if the dehydrator was jostled during shipping or what. All the trays are in good shape and the dehydrator works great. Just thought I'd give you a heads up about unpacking this wonderful dehydrator.

5Esencial para el estilo de vida "RawFood"May 20, 2011
By Giselda

I was not happy w/ the Excalibur 5. It wasn't constructed well. It was loud. It also took up a lot of room. I had to return to the manufacturer who charged a restocking fee. So I would never purchase from them again. Be certain you want it before you buy it.
