These cycles have variable speed settings that will change during the course of the cycle. This allows the blender to draw the contents into the blending vortex, which creates the desired texture. The blender will run its pre-programmed cycle and automatically shut off. If at any point you want to stop the blender before it has completed its cycle press any lower row button. The Total Blender recipe book is designed for an overall average in terms of ice temperature and the amount of liquid typically contained in various fruits and vegetables. Your experience may be different depending on local conditions and you may need to adjust certain recipes to have more or less ice, and higher or lower portions of fruits and vegetables or other ingredients. For example, if a drink is too thick to blend adequately, try reducing the ice a little and replacing the ice with a little water or other liquid. You will be amazed at the difference in blendability. Whatever your experience with ingredients, the Total Blender will blend things faster and more easily than other blenders because of its unique combination of high speed motor, patented square jar, single prong wingtip blade, direct drive coupling, and computer controlled blend cycles. In the world of professional blending, there are many factors which go into making a delicious and consistent blended product. It is from that world of professional results that the Total Blender derives its heritage. In order to blend many different things consistently well, Blendtec developed blend cycles to match the blending needs of the type of product being made. Absolutely Great ProductDec 11, 2010

This blender is so powerful it makes smoothies in 20 seconds - I haven't had any fruit or vegetable that doesn't get pulverized in that short amount of time. Clean up is so easy due to the blade being attached to the blender container itself. I'd recommend this product to anyone who wants a powerful blender.

Excellent blenderMar 26, 2011
By Matt I have now had this blender for about 4 months and I love it. I mostly use it for making green smoothies which is really easy since the "2" button is preprogrammed for it. The only slight annoyance is that when really packing the jar full, if not packed correctly, the contents will get wedged at the top and the blades will just spin. It didn't take me very long to learn how to put stuff in so that this almost never happens. When it does it is very easy to just hit stop, pull the top part off the lid, and push the contents down a little. I have also tried making green smoothies in a VitaMix and the Blendtec is way easier. With the Blendtec the preprogrammed button makes a perfect smoothie every time whereas I still can't figure out how to correctly use the VitaMix to get all the contents fully chopped up and get the right consistency.

Love my Blendtec!Mar 04, 2011
By Megan Kafer Couldn't be happier with my purchase! I've been using my Blendtec now for 2 months. I use it to make green smoothies at least twice a day, and have also used it to puree soups. I love the variety of settings and digital screen. I set it on Whole Foods - Heavy Juice to make my smoothies and it takes 3 minutes to make the smoothest smoothies out of whole fruits and vegetables.

Blendec MagicMar 14, 2011
By lake forest college We haven't stopped using it since we got it....Terrific Unit. Now this is an adult Blender.... Mornings would not be the same with it it. 1 Grapefruit 1 orange 2 Tangerines...
Peeled and put in blender, with a handful of ice... Cinnamon, and egg with a shot or two of Half & Half tossed in,....AND you have Breakfast, READY for the morning at the Computer.
Juice up some Celery, and Carrots. Pour into Blender with leafs of spinach and an apple add a peeled lime. This will reduce dinner overeating and take the edge off in late afternoon.

Not in loveJan 31, 2012
By L. Sommers I have been patiently waiting for a Blendtec for a couple years now. We eat a whole-foods, organic, gluten-free diet, so I am cooking all the time, and my kitchen tools just about need to be commercial grade to survive in our household. I got the Blendtec to replace my 6-year-old Cuisinart Professional food processor, which has had a broken latch for most of its career. I know the Blendtec is a blender, not a food processor, but the company advertises that it replaces 9 kitchen tools, and that it does many of the functions of a food processor. I primarily used my food processor for vegetable chopping, some grinding, nut/seed butters, and batters. Here are the results of my all-evening test. The Blendtec did an impressive job of turning my cashews into dust (though I was aiming for nut MEAL) in just a few seconds. It also made a very nice smoothie. However, the love ends there. I tried to make a nut dough that I've made probably hundreds of times in my food processor, and the display kept saying "overload." The dough was almonds, butter, arrowroot, vanilla, and rapadura sugar. It was soft, not stiff, but the blade completely compacted the dough underneath so the blade couldn't move. I ended up fishing the dough out and mixing it by hand...not exactly the time/effort saver I was looking for. AND there were still chunks of whole almonds in the dough, a problem I've never had with my food processor. I then tried chopping veggies...onions, carrots, and celery (separately)...for a casserole. The onions, despite my barely touching the pulse buttion, ended up with big chunks on top and onion juice on the bottom. Carrots chopped fairly well, but I still had large chunks I had to fish out. The celery was awful--big chunks and strings, with slurry stuck under the blade. The Blendtec definitely struck out for chopping. Finally, I tried grinding flour from whole grain berries. This was one of my main interests, since I had to replace the grain grinder I had been using for gluten-containing grains before our celiac diagnosis. WIth the whole millet, the Blendtec blitzed right through in a few seconds, making it powder fine. It was as fine or finer than my Nutrimill grinder had been able to do. Same with whole sorghum. However, when I tried brown rice, the Blendtec failed to deliver again. After two cycles, I still had hunks of rice, and a gritty, partially ground meal, rather than flour.
My Blendtec is going back...fortunately I bought mine at Costco (for $120 less than the Amazon price!) and they have a money-back satisfaction guarantee. I suppose if you only make smoothies, this would be an amazing machine. I usually use my immersion blender, which does a fine job, but with the Blendtec, I made a whole orange, banana, frozen strawberry, and greens smoothie for my children, and it totally obliterated all the fruit and veggies into a smooth, creamy drink. But honestly, I don't make smoothies all the time, and when I do, the $20 immersion blender does just fine, and my kids and I tolerate the tiny flakes of greens it leaves with no problem. For the price of this machine, it should bring me coffee in bed. I think high expectations are not unreasonable, and the Blendtec just did not deliver. Back to using my broken-latch food processor and a coffee mill for my grains. They do a better job.
