Has an odd taste, water strip tests show no change in pHFeb 27, 2010

I'd love to say this product worked as advertised, but it doesn't seem to. The first clue that something was off was that the instructions are unintelligible -- translated so poorly from the Japanese that they're almost impossible to follow. I don't know about other people, but this makes me very suspicious. I'm a technical writer, and I feel like a reputable product would have better instructions than these (it's such a simple thing to do). The second clue was that, if water was left in the cup for more than a few minutes, it had an unpleasant, strong taste. Also, I can't recommend dealing with this company. I had to call them twice, and each time they were unhelpful and abrupt; my impression was that if I'd been upset or expressed any righteous indignation - done anything other than remaining calm - they would have gone beyond rude to nasty. They said they were going to deduct a 15% restocking fee even though the product produced a bad taste, and despite the fact that I'd tested the water and saw no pH change. They claim that water testing strips don't work, and said they'd need to test the cup themselves. To their credit, although the conversations were difficult, they did refund me the full cost of the cup.
