Kitchen itemJul 25, 2011
By CWH I bought this to grinds poppy seed for making poppy seed filling for an Eastern European style Poppy Seed loaf. Strangely this item was made in the Czech Republic. It is a first class grinder which I found impossible to get in the Baltimore, MD area.
It ground the poppy seed to a fine almost paste style consistency. Since it is hand powered it takes a while to grind a pound or more of poppy seed.
The grinder comes apart easily for easy cleaning with soap as water. It easily mounted on my kitchen counter top but there might be an issue in mounting it on a stone, granite or other type of marble counter top which could become easily marred. If that is the case use the grinder on a work bench or other type of wooden table top. I inserted blocks of scrap wood to prevent my formica top.
While this is sold as a poppy seed grinder it will grind all manner of seeds or nuts. And even small amounts of meat might be ground although it is smaller then the usual hand cranked meat grinders I have seen.
Overall is does an excellent job in grinding seeds and nuts and there is a certain amount of adjustment which can be used to control the size of the grind. I think is a pinch it could be used to grind wheat into flour. Again time consuming since it is done by hand.Weston All-Purpose Seed, Nut and Spice Grinder PLEASE NOTE THAT THE GRINDER I AM RATING IS MADE BY PORKERT AND NOT THE WEATON ALL-PURPOSE SEED, NUT AND SPICE GRINDER SHOWN HERE. WHEN I TRIED TO ENTER THE PORKERT ITEM I GOT A RESPONSE THAT IT DID NOT MATCH ANY ITEM LISTED IN AMAZON NOW. SO MY GUESS IS IT IS NOT LONGER BEING SOLD ON AMAZON.
